Daily attendance is a requirement for our program. We have hired staff M-F to support
the number of students attending. If your child is absent from ASP, please notify the
program before the time your child is expected to check-in. If a child is absent from the
regular school day, he/she will not be able to attend ASP for that day. Three unexcused
absences may result in dismissal from the program. Excused absences will include
illnesses and medical appointments. If your child is regularly attending a different
program please make arrangements students may not be picked up before 4:00 p.m. at
all school sites. It will count as an unexcused absence before 4:00 pm unless a medical
note is provided. The only exception is a school-sponsored activity. Community youth
sports will not be excused. We have waitlists and must give priority to students who
attend regularly until 4:00 pm.
Please notify the site lead when your child is sick/absent. Site Leads will be available
only during program hours. An absence without contacting the site will be counted as
unexcused.
Daily attendance is required of students participating in the Expanded Learning
Program. Students need to attend until 4:00 pm daily. Our program funding is based
on attendance. The Expanded Learning Program requires programs to stay open until
6:00 p.m. and for 15 hours per week. However, it is understood that family
commitments, health-related appointments, sports practices, other outside activities, or
safety issues will occur during the Expanded Learning Program hours so not all
students can stay until 6:00 pm. For occasions such as these, you may request an early
release time for your student to be picked up from the program. The early release is only
for 4:00 pm-6:00 pm excuses. Please note that even though the application gives a
drop-down time of early we will not accept an excuse for early release before 4:00 pm.
California Education Code Section 8483(a) states that:
1. Every Expanded Learning Program shall commence immediately upon the
conclusion of the regular school day, and operate a minimum of 15 hours per
week, and at least until 6:00 p.m. on every regular school day.
2. It is the intent of the Legislature that elementary school and middle school or
junior high school pupils participate in the full day of the program every day
during which pupils participate, except as allowed by the early release policy
pursuant to subparagraph (B)of paragraph (1) of this section or paragraph (2)
of subdivision (f) of Section 8483.76.
